Valerie Jane Morris-Goodall
Valerie Jane Morris-Goodall, or Dr. Jane Goodall, was born on April 3, 1934, in Hampstead, London, to an engineer father and a stay-at-home mother. She was raised in London and later in Bournemouth.
Passionate about animals (and a vegetarian) since her youth, she decided in 1960 to live alone among them to better observe and understand them. She settled in the Lake Tanganyika region (Tanzania), in what is now Gombe Stream National Park, to study the behavior of chimpanzees.
Visionary and founder of the Jane Goodall Institute, she impacted young university students with her Roots & Shoots program.
Having passed away on October 1, 2025, in the United States, Congo for Agriculture and all its staff present their condolences to her entire family and all nature lovers.
